Top 5: Quilt Covers

By Penny Craswell

Over the past 10 years or so, we have seen in increase in choice for customers looking to buy bedlinen from local brands selling their own designs. And now that we are spending a lot more time at home and the weather’s getting cooler, here’s five of my favourite quilt covers currently available for purchase online in Australia.

1) With an array of earthy colours and patterns, Sage x Clare is an online retailer selling bedding, but also other homewares, apparel and accessories. The Mathilde Stripe quilt cover is just gorgeous (pictured here in Lemon, but also available in Punch and Parchment) and also check out their range of awesome and funny bath mats.

2) Aura Home by Tracie Ellis has been around since 2000 and is now sold by stockists all over the place, but their website features all of their ranges and also has some pretty great sales. Their Maison Vintage collection is woven from French flax grown sustainably and is available in gorgeous colours including this beautiful Olive. They also have a range of velvet bedlinen.

3) Full of life and colour, Kip and Co is a Melbourne brand launched by two sisters and their best friend in 2012. What started as bedlinen now includes clothes and accessories for the whole family, as well as other items for the home and a pet range. My favourite is the Gallop pattern, which is a floral print on a brown base with miniature horses. Gorgeous with the Lavender sheets as in this image.

4) Founded in 2008, Castle is a Sydney-based brand whose artworks, bedlinen, cushions, throws, clothing and bags are sewn, screened and painted by Rachel Castle. I particularly love their Gingham Quilt Cover, here pictured layered with Little Garden sheets, Chalk Spot pillowcase, Navy Velvet pillowcase and Blue Bumble blanket. The artwork is also by Rachel.

5) An Australian brand founded in 2014 by Genevieve and Alan, Bed Threads is busting myths when it comes to thread counts (it’s a myth that higher thread counts equal superior bedding) and instead opting for only high quality, pure, 100% French flax linen. With no decorative patterns in sight, this brand instead offers a range of plain beautiful colours and the option to build your own bundle with a colour palette unique to you. I love the soft raspberry and autumnal tones of this choice in Terracotta, Lavender and Rosewater.

Other Australian bedlinen labels include: Good Studios, Fictional Objects, Cultiver, In the Sac, Ettitude, Weft and In Bed. Plus Australian fashion brands that also sell bedding include: Lazy Bones, Nancy Bird, Gorman.
