Object Stories: Puffalo modular by Ross Didier

By Penny Craswell

Melbourne designer Ross Didier has created a versatile modular furniture system called Puffalo whose name refers to a combination of a puffer jacket and a li-lo.

Designed and manufactured in Melbourne using solid timber frames, steel springs and Green Star-rated foam, plus duck feather for the cushion, this system can be dressed up using any upholstery option. “Any upholstery fabrics can be specified but wools and leathers have a beautiful natural stretch that organically moulds around Puffalo’s voluptuous forms and reveals the skilled upholstery detailing,” says Didier.

Puffalo comes in 20 individual modules including sofa, desk and side tables. “I like to design furniture with utilitarian luxury so I hope people will use Puffalo however they want,” he says.

“A lot of thought and time is invested to make my furniture designs as multipurpose as possible, with aesthetics, ergonomics and manufacturing techniques carefully considered, so I hope Puffalo doesn’t get pigeonholed as commercial or residential.”

Didier has created an animation to show how the variety of pieces and how they can be combined in an office environment for a range of workplace activities. Creating the animation “definitely kept me sane during lockdown,” he says.

“I like the creative process of building narrative through furniture, and I like to be eclectic, so Puffalo sits well within the extending Didier family.”

Ross Didier’s creations are absolutely awesome! Aside of its astonishing design the puffer modular really is great for homes or apartments with small space.
